Description
MODEL RELEASED. Nostradamus radar system. Richard Finck (left), director of the Nostradamus project at the French arms procurement agency DGA, and Gilbert Auffray (right), chief of the HF radar unit at the National Office of Aerospace Study and Research (ONERA) in France, discussing the results obtained by Nostradamus, a transhorizon radar system. Nostradamus is capable of detecting aircraft flying 700-2000 kilometres away. The system uses low frequency waves (6-30 MHz), which bounce off the ionosphere (outer layer of the Earth's atmosphere) and allow the radar to detect targets beyond the horizon.
